Persistent Faith!

“And going away from there Jesus withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman who was a Canaanite from that district came out and, with a loud, troublesome urgent cry, begged, Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is miserably and distressingly and cruelly possessed by a demon! But He did not answer her a word, And His disciples came in a implored Him, saying, Send her away for she is crying out after us. He answered, I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. But she came and, kneeling, worshiped Him and kept praying, Lord, help me! And He answered, It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs. She said, Yes, Lord, yet even the little pups eat the crumbs that fall from their young masters table. Then Jesus answer her, O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you wish. And her daughter was cured from that moment.” (Matthew 15:21-28)

This woman’s faith really impressed Jesus. She knew she didn’t qualify for anything from Him simply because of her heritage and race, yet she went for it anyway. She saw Him walking by and she knew He was able to help her daughter. She was loud, her cries to Him were distressing to His disciples to the point where they wanted her sent away.

Yet Jesus didn’t even speak to her. It wasn’t because He didn’t love her. His mission was to the lost sheep of Israel. Jesus only did what His Father told Him to do. But how many of you know that God is merciful and full of compassion? AND God is totally impressed by FAITH! Finally she got Him to speak to her and He flat-out told her who He was sent to. Yet she persisted and made an argument for her case right there with Him. Her faith kept pushing and pushing until Jesus commended her on her faith and she got what she came for: her daughter was delivered from that moment.

We, as Christians, have a new and better covenant. Jesus’ Blood paved the way for us to be able to go boldly before the throne of grace and obtain the same help this woman received. Think about it, she looked past the obstacles, she looked past the resistance and the rejection of the disciples. She had persistent faith. She grabbed the hem of His garment and held on until she got the answer.

Beloved, you can take whatever situation you are in today, no matter how desperate and cry out to Jesus, even in a whisper and He’ll hear you. A simple “Jesus save me!” is all it takes. You don’t have to go as far as this Canaanite woman had to because the grace of God has come to ALL people.  But remember this: sometimes it takes persistent faith to get a breakthrough, so take a lesson from this woman…

Blessings everyone…
