The God of the Second Chance

“When my soul fainted upon me [crushing me], I earnestly and seriously remembered the Lord; and my prayer came to You, into Your holy temple, those who pay regard to false, useless and worthless idols forsake their own {Source of} mercy and loving-kindness. But as for me, I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed, Salvation and deliverance belong to the Lord! And the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.” (Jonah 2:8-9)

This is Jonah’s prayer while he was in the belly of the fish. What a predicament he was in! All because he refused to do what the Lord told him to do. Jonah was a prophet. That was his call from God. God wanted to have mercy upon the bloody city of Nineveh because there were so many children there that would die unless they were warned of coming judgment.

Jonah hated them and wanted them all to die because of their brutality. So he tried to run from his assignment. God needed Jonah to do this and He was determined that Jonah was going to do it. So here Jonah is, in the belly of this fish. He finally says, “Ok Lord, whatever you want I’ll do it! Just get me out of here!”

He said “But as for me, I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed.” When He prayed this prayer to the Lord, He delivered him. And he went to Nineveh and warned them and they repented!

Sometimes we end up in places we didn’t intend to go simply because we ignored God’s instructions and warnings. But His mercy endures forever! He is the God of the second, third and fourth chances. His love for you and me never waivers even when we mess up. He is faithful to pull us out of “the belly of the fish” we are in too. Once we are obedient, the blessings come!

Beloved, no matter how bad your predicament is today, cry out the Lord today like Jonah did. He is faithful to pull you out and deliver you from it. He has done it for countless others and He’ll do it for YOU!

Blessings everyone…
