Love With Skin On

“He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and that which he has given He will repay to him.” (Proverbs 19:17)

Jesus said “the poor are always with you” and it is true to this day.  Perhaps now more than ever people are living in horrible conditions all over the world.  The Lord looks out over the earth and sees it all.  Jesus was always moved with compassion when He saw the poor and He is still moved with compassion when He sees them today.

He is looking for people.  Human beings to be “love with skin on” for Him to help the poor and the defenseless.  The innocent ones.  Compassion for the plights of others is an earmark of a child of God.  What do the “poor” look like in today’s society?

It’s the elderly lady on a small fixed income that can’t get to the grocery store.  Stop by and drop off a few groceries for her.  Sit and talk with her for a while.  Jesus said “when you do it for the least of these, you do it for Me.”

It’s the elderly man who just lost his wife of many years.  Stop by and visit, bring him a meal or take him out to eat…and of course pray with him!  People need people.  The touch of a human hand can bring so much encouragement and comfort to someone who has lost it all.

The poor are not just poor financially, it’s the poor in spirit too that need compassion.  Showing compassion towards others is in reality lending to the Lord because you really are being His arms and His hands on them.  Ask Him today who you can show compassion to?  He will give you plenty of opportunities to show His love and compassion for people in the crazy, mixed up world we live in.

Blessings everyone…
