“Therefore if any person is in-grafted in Christ he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old previous moral and spiritual condition has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come! But all things are from God, Who through Jesus Christ reconciled us to Himself and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation that by word and deed we might aim to bring others into harmony with Him.” (II Corinthians 5:17-18)
There have been several movies made about taking someone off the street and cleaning them up so that they are beautiful or handsome underneath all that dirt and grime. That is the way we are before we come to Jesus. We have the weight of the world on our shoulders with no hope. Then we come across Jesus who takes us in and cleans us up and makes us completely new! His mercies are new every morning and He daily loads us with benefits!
How does he clean us up? He washes away our sins with His Blood. He puts the robe of righteousness on us and He renews our minds with His Word. He heals our inner wounds and our diseases if we ask Him to. He gives us a purpose and a job to do on this earth–the ministry of reconciliation. It’s like finding a really great restaurant and then telling your friends and family about how good it is!
The ministry of reconciliation is this: telling others where you found life-changing help. If a grocery store was giving out free groceries and didn’t spend one penny on advertising, how long would it take for word to get around that there are free groceries in the area? Not long I can assure you! The ministry of reconciliation is the same way. When you share what God has done for you, the Holy Spirit is able to speak to the heart of the listener and that is where a life can be changed forever!
