“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (I Peter 2:9)
Light and darkness cannot coexist. When the light is on there is no more darkness. When the light is off, there is no more light. Which is better? That depends on the person. Some people love it dark and others love the light. In the spirit, it is the same. Some people love the evil deeds of darkness while others love the Light of Jesus Christ.
What are some traits of darkness? Darkness enables things to remain hidden. Sin is performed in darkness. Alcoholics hide their bottles of liquor. Pedophiles hide their deviancy by threatening or killing their victims. Murderers usually kill under cover of darkness because their victims can’t see them. Darkness loves to hide until it’s too late to stop. Darkness dims the eyes and disorients them so that they can’t tell where they are at or where they are going.
What are some traits of the light? Light is open and airy. Light allows one to breathe deep. Light is revealing. Light is peaceful. Light gives a sense of security. Light has no ability to hide anything. Light submits it all. Light enables one to know exactly where they are at and where they are going. Light is stable. The path is defined and clearly seen.
Everybody is in the darkness until they come into the kingdom of God, which is the Light. Through the Cross, Jesus purchased everyone. He paid for everyone’s sin. Even the most evil ones. The question is whether or not we will take His Hand and step into the Light by asking Jesus to come into our heart and forgive us. That is the step into light from darkness.
This scripture shows us why God chose to purchase us back from the darkness.
“that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
Our purpose is to glorify Him through our lives. We share our testimonies of what He has done in our lives and when we live our lives in Him showing the world His character through our character. By this the world can see the light from their darkness and begin to move towards it. I believe that most people sitting in a dark room want to get to a source of light. When we let our light shine out into the darkness of the lives we touch, then they can find the Light of Jesus and in turn, their light will shine into their world and that is how the whole world can come into the saving Light of Jesus Christ.
