The Secret to Contentment

“Not that I am implying that I was in any personal want, for I have learned how to be content (satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or disquieted) in whatever state I am.  I know how to be abased and live humbly in straitened circumstances, and I know also how to enjoy plenty and live in abundance.  I have learned in any and all circumstances the secret of facing every situation, whether well-fed or going hungry, having a sufficiency and enough to spare or going without and being in want.

I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency].” (Philippians 4:11-13)

How many of us can truly say what the Apostle Paul said here?  “I have learned how to be content.”  How many of us have said “well if I just had a better job” or “If I could have married my high-school sweetheart”  or “if I could lose 50 pounds.”  This mindset always leaves a hollowed out pit in your stomach.  Even if you got the job or the sweetheart or lost fifty pounds…and what if that emptiness is still there?  Most of the time the greener pastures are a mirage with a whole new set of problems.

Paul found the secret to contentment in every circumstance he encountered, whether it was good or bad.  When he was making tents he was praising God for the work.  When he was thrown in the inner prison, he sang praises at the midnight hour and God set him free.  He had found that Pearl of great price–Jesus Christ, and through Him he was able to do ALL things to the glory of God!

That’s the secret of contentment–ALL THINGS IN CHRIST WHO EMPOWERS.  Paul said “I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me.”  There is a place in Jesus Christ where you can be so infused with Him that all hell can break loose in your life and you too, will sing praises to God at the midnight hour–and God will set you free!

The secret of contentment is found on the Road to Holiness.  As you mature in the Lord, the things of this world will indeed grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace!

Don’t know Him?

Meet Jesus Here…

Blessings everyone…
