“The sluggard says, There is a lion in the way! A lion is in the streets! As the door turns on its hinges, so does the lazy man [move not from his place] upon his bed. The slothful and self-indulgent buries his hand in his bosom; it distresses and wearies him to bring it again to his mouth.” (Proverbs 26:13-15)
We have one shot at this thing called life. It comes and goes like a puff of smoke. The Lord said back in Genesis “I will not strive with man forever, the number of his days shall be one hundred twenty.” People used to live hundreds of years, today we live less than a hundred as a rule. We have less than a century to make a difference on this earth and more importantly, in eternity.
History shows many people have accomplished so much in the short time they were here. Some for good and some for evil. The clock starts ticking the moment we are conceived. Many don’t even make it out of the womb to do anything, but those who do have so many opportunities to make a difference.
But there is a thief out there–a time thief called PROCRASTINATION. Putting off tomorrow what is critical to do today, so we can live for today. The catch is that everybody has a limited number of days on earth. We have a span of time allotted to us to make our lives count. The most critical decision we will ever make is where we will spend eternity because once this life is over and we step out of time and into eternity, there is no going back. Your eternal decision has been made.
Procrastination can cripple a believer and keep them ineffective and just spinning their wheels. I am trying to overcome this time thief. When you are young, it’s not as noticeable, but when you are staring sixty square in the eyes, things are different! So much to do for the Kingdom of God and not enough hours in the day it seems like. How many hours do we spend sitting here at the computer playing on Facebook instead of spending time with Him?
Like overcoming any other bad habit, it must start with a decision to change. Our “to do” lists are getting longer and God is pushed further down the list day after day. Jesus said “seek ye first the Kingdom of God and My righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.” I believe one of these “things” is TIME. The Lord can stretch your time so you can be more productive in your every day lives. This time can make the difference in someone’s eternity. Time you spend interceding for the lost or going out and talking to people.–God will pour out His blessings on you in immeasurable ways.
