Positives And Negatives

“For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them]. (Philippians 4:8)

I have read this passage countless times throughout my Christian walk and tonight is the first time I’ve realized what it is really saying!  I used to read this and think “what in the world is there to think about that fits all these things?”  Thank You Holy Spirit for this light-bulb moment!  Let’s break it down:

Whatever is TRUE – God is true.  The Bible says “let God be true and every man a liar.”  If God is true, then His Word can be trusted.  Open your Bible and think on the truths found in it.

Whatever is WORTHY OF REVERENCE – God is worthy of our reverence.  Our worship and adoration.  Fix your thoughts on the GOODNESS of God.  His mercy and loving-kindness.  His grace and limitless love for you.

Whatever is HONORABLE and SEEMLY (FITTING) – God is honorable and His character is impeccable or seemly. The Word shows His honor and His character from Genesis through Revelation.  Pick any book in the Bible and you’ll find the honor and seemly character of God.  Meditate on that.

Whatever is JUST – God is the Righteous Judge of the universe!  He is the King of all kings.  His judgments are all just and righteous.  The Word is filled with His righteous and just decisions and decrees.   It is also filled with YOUR rights and benefits as a child of God.  Think about that.

Whatever is PURE – God is the essence of purity.  There is no variableness nor shadow of turning.  He is pure light and pure love.  The Word shows His purity and love throughout the scriptures.  Begin to worship Him and you will experience His light and His pure love.

Whatever is LOVELY – God is altogether lovely.  Everything about Him is beautiful beyond measure and infinitely lovely.  He IS the beauty of holiness.  Close your eyes and imagine the most beautiful image of God and it won’t compare to how lovely He really is.

Whatever is KIND and GRACIOUS – God’s loving-kindness is better than life.  He is gracious beyond comprehension.  His grace cannot be fathomed by our minds.  His mercy runs so deep towards us we cannot imagine it.  His mercies are new each morning and He daily loads us with benefits.

If there is any VIRTUE and EXCELLENCE – God’s virtue or power is limitless.  Everything He does and says is bathed in excellence.  His ways are awesome and magnificent to behold.  Tapping into His virtue releases His power into your life…just ask the woman with the issue of blood.

If there is anything WORTHY of PRAISE — God is worthy of ALL praise and glory and honor and majesty and power.  Just read the book of Revelation and see how worthy He is to be praised by the rest of the universe!

So really what this scripture is telling us is to think, meditate and fix our minds on GOD and His character which is found in His Word.  Just like the Lord told Joshua, “don’t let this book of the Law depart from your mouth, but meditate on it day and night and you shall have good success.”

In this world full of negatives, the best way to fill your life with the positives it to fill it with God.  His presence and His Word.  Just a little a day will blossom into something beautiful.

Don’t know Him?

Meet Jesus Here…

Blessings everyone…
