The Real Victory

“Then He returned to the disciples and said to them, Are you sill sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of especially wicked sinners, whose way is to act in opposition to God. Get up, let us be going! See, My betrayer is at hand!…And he came up to Jesus at once and said, Hail Master! And he embraced Him and kissed Him with pretended warmth and devotion.” (Matthew 26:45-46 & 49)

What a hard place Jesus was in at the Garden of Gethsemane. He had been with these twelve men for three and a half years. He knew them very well and they knew Him. They knew who He was yet once the confrontation started every one of them scattered to the four winds. One of them even brought His enemies right to Him and another one denied Him completely.

How painful that must have been on top of the knowledge of what He was about do endure on the Cross! Truly, Jesus can relate to our rejections, denials and betrayals. He looked past the present pain and the pain of the Cross to the victory of the resurrection.

The real victory that He achieved was not getting through the Cross; it was the resurrection. The victory of the resurrection is that the lost are restored, the disciples came back and were forgiven and they went on to build His church and yes, most of them died for Jesus.

I think back on the times I have betrayed Him and rejected Him and ran away in fear. But like the disciples, I came back and He forgave me and I know that He loves me none the less. The victory of the resurrection of Jesus Christ is real. Its powerful. Its life-changing.

If you have walked away and you miss Him, He’s still there right where you left Him and His love for you has not wavered. Today, He’s calling you to come back and walk with Him again.

Blessings everyone…
