Two-Sided Coin

“Or are you [so blind as to] trifle with and presume upon and despise and underestimate His kindness and forbearance and long-suffering patience?  Are you unmindful or actually ignorant of the fact that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repent (to change your mind and inner man to accept God’s will)?” Romans 2:4

“But as for cowards and the ignoble and the contemptible and the cravenly lacking in courage and cowardly submissive, and as for the unbelieving and faithless, and as for the depraved and defiled with abominations, and as for murderers and the lewd and adulterous and the practitioners of magic arts and the idolaters (those who give supreme devotion to anyone or anything other than God) and all liars (those who knowingly convey untruth by word or deed)–[all of these shall have] their part in the lake that blazes with fire and brimstone.  This is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)

“This is positive proof of the just and right judgment of God to the end that you may be deemed deserving of His kingdom [a plain token of His fair verdict which designs that you should be made and counted worthy of the kingdom of God], for the sake of which you are also suffering.” (II Thessalonians 1:5)

God is like a two-sided coin.  On the one side His unfailing love and faithfulness draws men to Himself through the finished work of the Cross.  The Psalms say His mercy endures forever and His mercies are new every morning.  Everyone, no matter how evil are welcomed when they come to the Light of His love.  He loves everyone so much that is it literally is beyond our capability to understand His love.  His love demanded redemption through the Blood of Jesus for us.  His love refused to allow us to share the same fate as the devil and the rebellious angels.  He had to make a way for us to escape.

The other side of the coin shows the judgment of God.  God alone is the Judge of the universe.  Since He is the Creator of it all, He has the right to judge His creation.  We all have a free will.  He gave us that right when He created us.  He doesn’t want mindless obedience.  He wants the free-will offerings of our hearts.  And because we have that right to choose, it’s important to understand the other side of the coin.  God doesn’t sugar-coat the reality of Hell.  The reality of choosing NOT to accept His free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.  Hell is not revenge for not accepting Jesus, it is a destination that everyone ever born is headed to ANYWAY.  Jesus is the lifeline that God has thrown to us to save us from a place we are going to anyway.

Hell is the place where ALL rebellion against God’s authority goes.  All people great and small are born into rebellion.  It’s the legacy of Adam.  The Bible says that broad is the highway to Hell but narrow is the way to eternal life.  The theology of these modern times discounts the reality of Hell.  Why?  Because it’s not popular.  It’s not warm and fuzzy.  Because it doesn’t give us the goose bumps we love.  As believers, we are in the Kingdom of God where all of the positives of God are ours for the taking.  But what about those out there still in rebellion?  What happens to them if they die in their sins without Jesus?

These days people, even the Church has watered down the reality of Hell with statements like “I just don’t believe a loving God will send anyone to hell” or “hell is just a metaphor of a state and not a real place.”  Sorry folks, the Bible is clear on this.  Hell is a real place of torment for all rebels–evil spirits, fallen angels and mankind.  God isn’t the one sending people to Hell…it is OUR choice where we spend eternity.  Satan and the fallen angels made their choice and human beings will make their choice during their lifetimes.  When people step into eternity, the decision has been made and there is no going back.

The reality check for us, as believers is this: SOULS are hanging in the balance.  Souls that God considers a precious commodity.  His heart hurts to see anyone die without Jesus.  That is why we, must tell people about Jesus, about the love of God and about the wonderful plans He has for everyone.  We all have lost loved ones, friends and family that are “out there” in rebellious lifestyles.

Here is a reality I just realized:  everybody, good and bad are going to be resurrected one day with our physical bodies.  It doesn’t matter if people have been cremated or eaten by some animal for fish, God will restore their physical body.  On that day, at the Great White Throne judgment, the books will be opened and the book of life will be opened. The people who took the lifeline of Jesus Christ will be welcomed into the Eternal Kingdom of God and those who didn’t will be cast into the second death, which is the lake of fire.  They will be in a physical body with no ability to die in a lake of fire where the flames will continually burn but not consume.  A burn is probably the worst pain a person can endure.  Imagine your loved ones in that for all eternity.  This fact should drive all Christians to their knees in prayer for the lost!

This side of the coin should motivate you and I to get out there and tell people about Jesus like never before!  You might be reading this and think it’s a crock.  But what if you are wrong?  Eternity is a long time to pay for a mistaken doctrine or theology when the Bible is so clear on it.  This blog is called From the Heart of God because it’s His blog.  What He wants to share is what I share.  He wants people to realize that eternity is not a game, it’s not something to take lightly and certainly not something to gamble with.

The good news of the Gospel is that God loves people, yes you specifically, and that He has wonderful plans for your life.  His great salvation includes keeping you and I from Hell.  The obedient eat the good of the land.  The obedient enter His kingdom.  He is God.  It will be done His way.  God is always positive towards us.  His plans for us are for our benefit, but these plans can only be fulfilled if we make the right choice–to follow Jesus.  There are always two side to a coin and this coin is eternal life on one side and hell on the other.  The ball is in our court.

Blessings everyone…
